Pragati is our second chance program that supports them to complete Grade 10 and take the next step towards further education and empowerment.
This is Bunty, 27 – mother of two from a remote rural village in India. She studied until Grade 8 before dropping out of school.
With no access to a secondary school and believing she was no longer eligible, Bunty let go of her dream of becoming a police officer.
Preraks, like Sarika, are community mentors in the Pragati program. They support young women like Bunty to return to education and complete Grade 10 through village-based learning camps.
Sarika, as a Prerak, first organised a Pragati Sabha to involve families, school staff and local influencers in supporting girls’ education.
Following a community meeting, Sarika connected with Bunty during a visit to her neighborhood.
Bunty wished to continue her education but hesitated because of family concerns. Sarika regularly stayed in touch with the family, encouraging positive discussions and helping them understand the importance of supporting Bunty’s dreams and future aspirations.
Bunty successfully completed her 10th grade and gained newfound confidence in her abilities. Her educational journey inspired her to aim higher, and she now looks forward to creating a brighter future filled with new opportunities and personal growth.
Through the camp, Bunty developed important life skills, improved her understanding of finances, and learned basic digital knowledge. These experiences helped her become more confident, independent, and prepared to face new opportunities in her personal and educational journey.
Bunty is among thousands of young women who continued their education through the support of dedicated mentors, community encouragement, and local initiatives that helped them return to learning and build brighter futures for themselves.
